I figure this: as long as people are caught up in shame and guilt over appearance and body size, any calm, caring, logical assessment of one’s own health, really can’t take place. It’s too hard to think about self-care when people are filled with self-hate. It’s that simple. And I think as long as others are caught up in judging others about health, true self-care can’t take place for the hater either. I just don’t think discrimination and meanness are healthy activities to partake in – at best they leave people ignorant, at worse they are soul-destroying activities. I do think people get a rush of ego fulfillment from putting others down, this is true in the short term. But in the long run, that kind of thing just erodes the mind and spirit. I really believe that.
